Nuestra Causa: Rooted in the Mission
Our Purpose
Founded in 2022 in San Francisco's Mission District, Nuestra Causa is a collective of rooted organizers, educators, healers, and facilitators—led by its members and united by a shared purpose: to ignite political and civic empowerment through education, healing, and action.
We lead and support community-driven efforts that uplift marginalized workers, ensure food access for vulnerable families, support growth and reentry for the incarcerated and formerly incarcerated—including gang-impacted individuals—and advocate for self-determination in underserved communities. Through culturally grounded support circles, peer-led spaces, and community organizing, we create pathways for healing, connection, and leadership.
While our roots are in San Francisco’s, our work extends across the Central Valley, South Bay, and Sacramento region—building a network of care, action, and transformation across Northern California.
At Nuestra Causa, we are creating a community where those who are often left out are empowered, valued, and equipped to shape their own future.
Nuestra Causa is a fiscally sponsored project of the San Francisco Study Center, a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. All donations are tax-deductible to the fullest extent of the law.

Hombro a Hombro: Support circles
What began with our elders in the Compadres Network has grown into a broader movement. Through strong partnerships with the Bayview Boys & Girls Club, the Mentoring Men’s Movement, and the Phoenix Entrepreneurial Development Group, Nuestra Causa has expanded its reach and impact.
Today, we support people inside and in the community — men and women who are incarcerated or returning home, men in the community who have not been system-impacted, and transitional-age youth. This also includes co-ed circles and monolingual Spanish speakers who often have the least access to culturally grounded support.
We provide real pathways for growth, healing, and personal development, whether someone has been impacted by gangs, the system, or not at all. Our strength comes from the transformative power of our circles and the peer-to-peer learning that thrives in our Men’s, TAY, and Co-Ed Circles.
Raíz Política: political education
Nuestra Causa empowers communities through political education. We believe that informed communities are better equipped to advocate for their needs and drive positive change. Our workshops cover a range of topics designed to foster civic engagement and understanding. We build education based on the specific needs of a population or pressing issue they are facing.
Nuestra Causa is dedicated to empowering the next generation of leaders through a powerful combination of grassroots organizing, strategic political engagement, and people-centered campaigns.
We believe that true and lasting change comes from empowering those most directly impacted by injustice, centering their voices and experiences in the fight for a better future. We don't just advocate for communities; we empower communities to advocate for themselves.

Sembrando Esperanza: Food Distribution
At the heart of Nuestra Causa lies a deep commitment to the well-being of our community. Our food program, Sembrando Esperanza (Sowing Hope), embodies this commitment by providing vital nourishment to over 400 individuals and families in San Francisco's Mission District each month.
